Before Play Begins:

– Conduct a walkthrough of the facility before admitting players, coaches, or spectators. Use signage and block off any necessary areas.
– Confirm the facility is suitable for practice or tournament play.
– Inspect floor surfaces for defects or trip hazards. Remove any debris from outdoor playing areas and have tools like a sand sifter or rake available.
– Check for obstacles like low-hanging lights, heating units, or basketball backboards, ensuring compliance with relevant rules.
– Verify spectator seating is in good condition and block off restricted areas. Ensure seating allows sufficient clearance around the court.
– Ensure restrooms are clean, stocked, and in good repair.
– Control access to other parts of the facility and sports equipment as needed.
– Ensure standards and referee stands are padded as required.
– Pad posts, walls, or barriers around courts. Remove any hanging objects that could interfere with play.
– Know who to contact for facility issues, emergencies, or unruly spectators. Control access to keys and storage areas.
– Mark exits clearly and keep them unobstructed to comply with fire codes.
– Ensure parking areas are well-lit and monitored.
– Maintain clear pathways for emergency services access.
– Post relevant event policies, including the BRVA/USAV Parent/Spectator Code of Conduct.

Additional Precautions for Outdoor Facilities:

– Have basic first aid supplies and an AED available, with staff trained in their use.
