Outdoor volleyball is gaining popularity across the nation (and the NCAA adopted it as another sport on its list of recognized championships for women). The discipline is a great way to hone your skills and improve your all-around game, all while soaking up the sun.
And you can play just about anywhere. Sand and grass volleyball are both played with two players (or three) per team, increasing your touches each rally and allowing you to practice all aspects of the game. Whatever your weakness is, the outdoor game is a great chance to work on it. Playing outdoor volleyball improves your ability to read and react. Dealing with the sun and wind helps you to become more adaptable. A player’s height is less important outdoors – ball control and skill take top priority. The outdoor game is also a great way to improve a player’s jump. In addition, playing outdoor volleyball emphasizes the importance of communicating effectively and helps teammates strengthen their relationship.
We love just about everything about outdoor volleyball, and we know you will too. So ditch your gym shoes and knee pads, grab some sunglasses and head outside!
USAV Beach National Team Development Program
Young beach players who want to take the next step on their path to the podium can now be part of USA Volleyball’s Beach National Team Development Program (NTDP).
The NTDP is an athlete-centered and fluid system focusing on the health, well-being and overall development of each individual player. Athletes have increased opportunities to play with and against the best athletes from across the country and to learn from some of the best minds in the game.
Age groups for the Beach NTDP fluctuate between under-15 to under-21 for girls and under-16 to under-21 for boys. Athletes are selected for the NTDP via our nationwide Scouting Network. Scouts from around the country have been selected to identify the top athletes in the country, and. scouting takes place at top events and qualifiers across the United States. Once identified by the Scouting Network, top athletes have the opportunity to be invited to participate in the Beach NTDP Training Series held quarterly across the country.
In addition to the Training Series, athletes may also be nominated by their club coaches and club directors to participate in the Accelerator programs. Accelerators are held regionally and promote additional opportunities for athletes to train with and against the top competition throughout their region. Both the Training Series and Accelerator programs feature elite beach coaches.
