OFFICIAL CERTIFICATION LEVELS

PROVISIONAL:
A Provisional Referee has successfully applied volleyball rules and refereeing mechanics, operating at a developmental level. This status can be permanent if an individual chooses not to advance further or is unable to do so. Provisional Referees are typically assigned matches suitable to their skill level, usually involving girls 14U and below, with some exceptions.

REGIONAL:
After serving a minimum of one year as a Provisional Referee, one can pursue Regional certification. A Regional Referee is qualified to officiate matches at any age level within the Great Lakes Region. Key requirements include a solid understanding of volleyball rules and mechanics, proficiency in reffing mechanics, familiarity with the USAV scoresheet, the ability to transition to the R2 position, and a demonstrated awareness of rotational faults and back-row play.

JUNIOR NATIONAL:
A Junior National Referee is certified to officiate any USA Volleyball-sanctioned junior competition across all 40 regions, including the USA Volleyball Junior National Championships. While officiating at these events, a Junior National Referee is authorized to wear the official USA Volleyball Junior National Referee patch on their uniform.

NATIONAL:
A National Referee is eligible to work at all USA Volleyball-sanctioned competitions, encompassing the USA Volleyball Junior National Championships and the USA Volleyball Adult Open National Championships. A National-certified referee can proudly wear the official USA Volleyball National Referee patch on their Officials uniform at any USA-Volleyball event.
